BD removes TV Empty BD removes TV

Post by tzar44 Tue Jul 30, 2013 11:57 am

HI

I think it would be good after releasing the series in BD the older version which is TV series of the same anime get removed, to save bandwidth [storage] for new releases ... and I only suggest that if they both are 720 because some people might have problem with 1080p

maybe move those old[er TV] series [that had a newer BD release] to web-host such as mega ... or something like that ...

how do you save bandwidth by doing so? perhaps you mean storage capacity? if that's the case then i would agree. But I don't think it is of major concern right now.

as for the second suggestion to "move" the older series... ughhh, no.

Actually I think it will save some bandwidth too because usually the TV releases are 30-40% larger than BD and so they take more time to download, the storage is not really a big deal and it's not safe to rely on external mirrors too much (for storage), if we remove the files from the server and some day the mirror site closes (like megaupload for example) all files will be lost, a solution would be to use the server as database in case the download mirrors are unavailable (removing DDL links) so that it will be possible to reupload the files on external sites whenever we want, like on embedupload through the direct url uploading (sync was taking care of it, even though it's too early to say that we're gonna use it).
Recently probably someone already noticed that series like Anohana (mostly all files released by Will) are disappearing, those posts have restricted access because those files are really huge like 300-400 even 500 mbyte/episode and it was not useful, for both the server bandwidth and everybody else who want low size encodes, those files will be re-encoded with better settings (I think Will used fast preset to encode them, so is better to redo using very slow like it's supposed to be).

Well, Nii, it's being done already  Smile . You've probably not noticed it since the TV links are being hidden(and then the files deleted from the server) when the BDs are available. Also, if you noticed, only the best subs have been retained, and the others deleted, for the releases having multiple subs. That and deleting huge 300MB+ encodes was pretty much what sustained the server(in terms of space) over the last month or so.

I had thought as such, after realizing the difference between BD 720 (smaller) and TV 720 (larger grainier)
