Any Recommendation on how to watch Hi10 releases?

Hello, I had downloaded the khr batch that Hi10 released several years ago and I was wondering if anyone knows how to watch the episodes? I use a macbook pro; I have tried using mplayer x but the subs or the op/ed appear in the video... and I tried VLC which does show the subs and shows the op/ed with the episode... however the subs disappear each time the op/ed comes in and also when it goes back to the episode... and so i would have to manually turn on the subs each time which gets annoying. Has anyone know a good way to watch the episodes via mac?
